The Public Confessions of a Middle-Aged Woman

16/01/07

By Sue Townsend

Really.. This one should rather have said: Public COMPLAINS.. Argh.. There I was, sick in bed, longing for some good stuff, so I started this one (as I “normally” like Sue Townsend’s books), but this one was just not me. Like Marian Keyes’ Under the Duvet, I never found the small stories from real life anywhere near funny, mainly bitter and loathing :o/

Review (somewhat more postive ;o)) from amazon.co.uk:
Enter the world of Susan Lilian Townsend – sun-worshippers, work-shy writers, garden-centre lovers and those in search of a good time all welcome. Whether its a war against slugs, hosepipe bans, coping with writer’s block or the perils of package holidays, Sue Townsend knows about it. Collected together now for the first time, her monthly column for Sainsbury’s Magazine forms a set of pieces that is at once funny, perceptive and touching.

My rating: **
